A Very Special Good Friday

Dear Church,

I am excited to announce something special for Good Friday this year!

On Friday, April 18, 2025, New City will be joining forces with Sojourn Community Church, Grace Valley Church, and Grace Village Church for a special, multi-congregation, evangelistic worship service!

Over the past year or so, as we prayed, talked, and dreamed about our vision, the Lord gave us a burden for greater impact in our neighbourhood through the power of the gospel. But how do we overcome the obstacles to accomplish this mission? The resource constraints, cultural pressures, and missional inhibition we feel are very real.

We recognized that one strategy to overcoming the obstacles is to cooperate with likeminded ministry partners who are committed to gospel renewal in the city. One important expression of our unity in Christ is to worship our Lord together with a view to reaching the lost.

To this end, the four PCA churches in the Greater Hamilton Area have agreed to work together to plan a joint Good Friday service. Through this special service, we seek to glorify the crucified and risen Lord Jesus by worshiping as the Body of Christ and by partnering together to invite the unchurched to hear the gospel of the cross. In order to accommodate all four congregations, as well as everyone we want to invite, we will be worshiping in the auditorium of Redeemer University at 777 Garner Rd. E. at 10 AM.

In the next couple of weeks, you will be receiving invitation cards to share with your unbelieving friends, neighbours, and family. As we begin the season of Lent, a time of preparation for Good Friday and Easter, we urge you to pray fervently for your unchurched friends. All four of our churches are being urged to do the same. And please pray for the organizing team, cochaired by Rose Tamming of Sojourn and Allan Buist of New City.

Church, the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Let’s pray that this joint Good Friday service will be a catalyst for a gospel renewal movement in the City of Hamilton!
