AN INTERVIEW WITH STEVE
Get to know one of our elders, Steve Geleynse, below!
1. How did you and your family become a part of New City Church?
Jen and I started attending New City almost 13 years ago. We were just about to get married, Jen was new to Hamilton and we were looking for a spot we could really plug into as a newly married couple.
2. What led you to the decision of accepting the role of an elder at New City?
i) Being nominated by my church family was deeply humbling, and I wanted to honour that nomination.
ii) I love this church community, and I want to do what I can to see its members grow and flourish.
iii) I had a deep respect for the men who were already serving, and was excited to learn what being an elder meant along side of them.
3. Who are the important people in your life? (i.e. wife, family, etc.)
The most important people in my life are my wife, Jen, and my kids, Jack, Luke, and Madeline. I’ve also made many great friends, many who are in this church community.
4. What is one crazy/wild dream that you have that you wish would come true for New City?
We find money to build a roof top garden OR we begin to plant churches, and we see people get really fired up about the gospel, and they begin to pitch different ideas about ways we can use this building in innovative ways to reach our community.
5. What is your day job and what is your favourite part about it?
I work for a small renovation company as the production manager. I love being able to trouble shoot problems that arise in construction projects and coaching people and helping them navigate the challenges that come with managing trades and clients (I also love lots of things outside of work, like running, reading, hiking, skiing, swimming, board games, etc.).
